Last year, I based our yacht in La Rochelle. I still work and so sailing was based upon flying out for long week ends or the odd week or longer.

On the sail back to the UK South coast, we had intended to stop off in the Gulf of Morbihan/ Belle Isle but the weather and time did not permit more than the briefest of overnight stop on Il d'Houat.

So this year I'd like to base the yacht some where around the area bounded by say L'Orient and Vannes between May and mid August and use it as a basis of similar weekend commuter sailing. However, my boat is 15 meters overall and looking through the pilots, I dont see anywhere that really caters for longer term (3 months) berthing for a boat of that size which are also reasonably accessible to an airport with flights from South UK.

I would be grateful for any suggestions

There's a TGV from Vannes and Redon early each morning which goes to Lille. You can then cross the platform for the Eurostar. When you factor in airport palavar it may be just as quick.

You might want to try Vannes. I have seen 14-15m yachts left for a while on the vistors pontoon. The only concern with Vannes would be security, as it is in a city centre and there are no locked gates etc to stop people entering the pontoons.

You could lift out in Crouesty, the manager of the yard speaks very good English, and they might find you a berth. Good place, at the entrance to the Morbihan.

There are some berths for larger boats in Crouesty from memory. Like all these things personal contact and seeing the people/harbour master face to face might help. You ought to be aware that there is a shortage of berths on this coast.

La Trinite has a few berths for larger boats. You might get a bouy there as well.

Not sure if this will help but I'll add it anyway.

We moved at the start of the 2007 season to La Roche-Bernard having waited 4 years for a permanent berth. However, when we were looking (2003), we could have had a seasonal berth/mooring at many of the marinas in the Sagemor group - Arzal, Crouesty, la Trinite etc but would have had to look for alternative winter berthing Also we wanted the Passport Morbihan which only comes with an annual contract. Might be worth getting in touch with them
