BECALMED, AND BEING KEPT FROM SLEEPING BY THE PILOT ALARMS 3 Feb 2005 - 22:30
The total lack of wind is meaning the autopilots are unable to hold on as the wind data goes round in circles, and the lack of boatspeed means no steerage left...the pilot alarms go off to indicate they have lost control, and the skipper 'goes off' as the frustration gets too much! A bruised fist and a broken mp3 player are on the damage due to frustration report today...

Guess who?

I reckon that she would need the patience of Job, and some more, in that situation. This woman is amazing and if Britain had more like her, Great could be applied to the nation again. I am surprised that no namby-pamby Health and Safety nut hasn't tried to interfere.

I suspect that her attitude is what drives her achievements far beyond the abilities of most of us on this forum.

Those few who moan and criticise probably suffer from an inferiority complex that is well justified and are jealous of her success. They probably hope that she fails so that they can then boast "I told you so".

My comment to the moaners is "If the cap fits, wear it and shut up".

Coud not agree more.

BBC's "Jonno" had one such article a week or so ago which flipped my lid.

Armchair commentators who have never been where she has get my goat big time.

We as a sailors complain that sailing does not have high enough profile. This is exactly why. We all need to get out there and support them for gods sake. Every Frenchman knows who won the Vendee and on what day. I bet that 90% of us lot do not even know who or where Ellen.

Grrrrrr

No one, not one is belittling her abilities nor stamina in such a gruelling attempt. In fact I would suggest she has our admiration.

But if you have read her site you leave with a feeling a melancholy, it is so damn miserable, I read through it as best I could the other night.

The only happy report I could find was when she crossed the Equator on the way down. I don't mind a little playing up for excitement to the reader, but her reports have all the charisma of a Dylan Thomas poem, the site should come with a warning and a number for the Samaritans.
