Anyone got a temp gauge fitted on a beta 20hp. I just have a silly bleeper when things get hot. I would like to see a gauge rising. Having a problem at present as I don't think there is enough ventilation in the engine compartment. What kind of temp gauge would be suitable?

Hi
You will most likely need a 'sender' as well, I can quote but just as quick to contact Adrian or Jon at Beta Marine Parts Dept Tel 01452 723492. He will need the engine 'K' number which is show on the engine ID label.
Hope this helps.
Regards

I can confirm what SOS says. If you have an older Beta then the sender may have twin spade connectors. If it does then you can fit a Murphy Temp Gauge. If it is a newer Beta then you will need a different sender with matching gauge.

As SOS says speak to Adrian at Beta Marine, he is the font of all Beta knowledge!

Cheers Steve B

I also have an issue with my recently installed Beta 20. When the engine works hard.. but not overly hard, and in high ambient temperatures the beeper has a tendancy to kick in.

Each time it happens we do all the usual checks but nothing appears wrong, temperature seems ok and water circulation shows no issues.

Have tried with engine bay covers removed but this makes no difference. A gauge would probably be more effective but its nice to have the back up of the overheat alarm... but not when it goes of at the wrong temperature /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I am experiencing the same problem where the alarm sound very quietly can only hear when idling.Have had an engineer to look at the engine and advises that in his opinion it is not overheating. spoke to Adrian yesterday at Beta and he suggested a few ideas all to no which had previously been checked then he asked the question if I had recently renew my batteries which I had (both) he recons that this is the problem so will try partially discharge them to see if this cures the problem faint alarm comming on just after engine is started ( I also have a smart chargerdevice off the alternator to think that this might tie in with what he is saying. Spent a rather worring night last Saturday wondering if I was going to get back as I thought the engine was overheating hope this helps, Have you recently changed your batteries?

I have simular problems with my 2 year old Beta 20. I have an alarm kicking in at about 55°C (I can touch the engine with bare hand). Have checked all possible causes, mounted a digital temperature display for a 'roast' in the oven (they come with a long wire, have their own alarm and the small probe can be easily mounted on the motor surface. It's 10 € well spend! ). We removed the thermostat, refilled the intercooler, widened the exhaust, measured the impeller throughput...everything is ok. Funny thing is that the beeper oscillates on the motor vibrations. Reducing rpm immediatly interrupts the oscillating alarm (temp can't be that fast). We finaly concluded it has to be the temperature sender. Anyone knows what type it is and it's tripping point? Shouldn't there be an hysteresis to prevent oscillation? Thx for any help.
