Telegraph Obit today

Thanks for posting, I had not got as far as the obituaries yet today. As you say he was a lovely man and skilled yachtsman. I recall a couple or so years ago when returning single handed up river to the club marina his engine had failed. Rather than call for assistance he sailed back and berthed under sail.

In the confessions section at the back of YM this month is a contribution from the First Lieutenant about dropping an outboard into the Orwell. Peter was the passing sailor who asked if it was a Seagull!
It's largely thanks to him that we now sail; he took us out in Clymene in a F8. Three reefs and utterly relaxed, quite happy to have my 10 year old daughter helming with no experience whatsoever. If he had been more excitable I think the family would have been put off.
