A friend of mine is considering replacing a worn out teak deck with Tek Deck. No sentiments please; just the panel's experiences of the pros and cons of both. I appreciate aesthetics comes into the equation but he doesn't really strike me as that sort of guy. Just looking for something low-maintenace that looks good and is easy to install.

So! Please.Your experiences with this, good or bad. Let's just have it all out in the open. The deck that dare not speak it's name. God is it really that late??

Many thanks, as usual, to all in advance.

I am a wooden boat nut so would naturally say go for the genuin article BUT - On wooden boats if the boat is too small/light to take the wt and stiffness of a 1/2" ply sub-deck plus at least 5/8 teak then I would say don't go traditional unless you like cold showers!! I have had a lightweight teak deck and it took more maintainance than the rest of the boat put together and still leaked.

If you are resin bedding and seaming the teak the effectivly it is a ply deck with a thick top veneer so it is just a question of how long you want it to last

On steel or GRP potential problems from substraight and cover expanding differently with heat and moisture and also posibly flexing differently so maby the stability and flexibility of sinthetic will match the hull and work better
