anybody sailed into here in the last year? Was the entrance very different from current charts, was the visitor mooring secure and did they speak to the HM and get anything sensible from this gloriously "eccentric" artefact of a bygone age ... ? (boat 1.7m draft)

Re: Teignmouth ... up to date

From what I remember about Teignmouth from the days when I raced Redwing dinghies there you should be asking "anybody sailed into here YESTERDAY" as the entrance changed on a daily basis. The local pilots used to move the channel buoys on their way out to the ship they were about to bring in.

Drop a line addressed to the Teign Corinthian Sailing Club, Teignmouth -somebody there will be able to answer your other questions.

Re: Teignmouth ... up to date

The channel dredged regularly as the frieght has increased into the port since the Exmouth dock closed. Entering an hour before HW will be ideal if you can time your arrival then as you are best mooring up at near to slack as the stream can flow quite fast on the visitors mooring. If you follow a line from the yellow channel marker to the white post on the training wall you should be in deep water. Once level with the white post you are straightening up in channel and following the bend between the beach and the old salty. Visitors berth to starboard alongside the back beach. I haven't met the new Harbour master who took over from Reg so I cannot comment on him.

Regards.

Peter.
