\'Tehri\' boats

Has anyone any experience of these boats? I was going to use one (Nordic 6020)for towing/fishing etc but am not sure about the pros and cons of a boat made from ABS/thermoplastics. Any feedback appreciated...

don't know the boats but have had a little experience of ABS as a boatbuilding material. way back when i had a sailboard made by dufour from moulded ABS, touted as 'the material crash helmets are made from.

it was pretty tough stuff but an unfortunate collision resulted in a split quite a bit longer than the area of impact which wouldn't have happened with a fibre-reinforced material.

Biggest problem is after they have been damaged. They are very difficult to make a decent repair. Fine until then, as the material is cheaper to manufacture and lighter (e.g. topper's) but as they get older, they sont reduce in value gradually, they go from reasonable value to nothing in one slight impact!

Re: \'Tehri\' boats

I bought a Terhi 245 dinghy in about 1982. It was blown over on the foreshore and got a crack in the outer skin about 4 inches long. The Finns sent me a two part repair kit free of charge. The repair has lasted to this day, although not very beautiful as it looks like Araldite now. The boat has lain outside in North Wales since I bought it and is still fully serviceable. The only mod I made was to put aluminium keel bands on the keel to protect the hull from abrasion when hauling up the beach.
