Teddington Lock Closure Due to Adverse Weather Conditions

Friday 2 to Saturday 3 March 2018

The Environment Agency has closed all Thames offices and depots today, Friday 2 March, due to the current adverse weather conditions, which are also affecting transport networks. We have a duty to ensure our staff's health safety & welfare, and all routine operational activities are suspended until conditions improve. We will continue to undertake our business critical activities and review our responses to any incidents on the river.

During this time we will also continue to monitor river levels, adjusting weirs when necessary. However, there may be larger than normal fluctuations in water levels, within acceptable ranges, on some reaches as we manage the weirs with as little adjustment as possible.

Teddington Lock will also be closed during this time. Due to high tides, the lock gates will be chained together to prevent damage to the lock gates and structure. Boat passage through the lock will not be possible.

We must ensure our staff remain safe during this extreme weather, and we will update this message as soon as we have taken the decision to reopen the lock.

Shall I mention the public right of navigation across all parts of the river?
