They didn’t give a reason although I suspect someone has been ‘pinged’ … as long as it doesn’t ruin my weekend I don’t mind

Might be something to get used to in times of economic hardship ?
On the Medway you do need to book to get a lockie if wishing to transit in the god forsaken wee small hours of the morning.
The weir at Allington has been automatic for years and years with an alarm if anything goes amiss.
Some time ago one of the sluices raised activating the alarm and the on call lockie had to nip round smartish and manually shut it again.
