on that subject...
The Merdeway has a couple of locks with problems , one appears to be simply a case of replacing some worn but vital bits, the other lock problem a bit more substantial.
It was suggested that had the EA retained its in house ability to sort minor repairs to its infrastructure, the work would have involved a couple of days max with the gear they had/have and job done in house PDQ.
Now it involves contractors and sub contractors who all want their slice of the pie, when they can fit the work in of course.
The second problem is more complex.
It could possibly be tackled with the kit and staff they have, virtually immediately.
Got to get quotes from external contractors and the bills are already starting to add up.

A right olde ill informed rant going on the the webpages of a particular newspaper having pop at the EA and its staff regards them apparently deliberately causing problems to the DLS flottila going through Teddington due to their anti patriotic (EA staff not the DLS :) ) views.
No mention in the article that the work in question has been going on for well over 12 months.

It’s as if a well known boatyard tipped them off …

The launch lock shows no sign of work this year despite what they say. The barge lock will continue to break down as it did on Saturday with me in it !

The Medway contingent of "Support Fleet" :ROFLMAO:will be going round to Ramsgate on the 17th ready for the crossing to Dunkerque on the 21st.
The DLS have requested that the Gin Places keep their distance.
Looking forward to a display from the last flying Swordfish.

More evidence of how appalling the EA have got:

The PLA can send out an NTM for Teddington, even though it's neither a PLA asset, nor in their part of the navigation: Cross Deep - Teddington Launch Lock and Barge Lock Closures | Port of London Authority

Meanwhile the EA have still to send anything out, just hoping that all and sundry may stumble upon the notice hidden in the dot gov website.

Yup I was asked to tweet and Facebook it by the keeper in the lock !

The well known regional manager is active on Twitter until something goes wrong …

I’ve yet to see what this weekend holds …

Closed again. EA aware

Yup getting a bit silly now, even with 0900-1630 it’s a pain.

We have to give priority to commercial vessels which I don’t mind but you can plan any sort of weekend, even a trip to the boozer is now on the clock !

did I see that Marlow lock was shut yesterday (it may have been sorted by now).

Last year was probably the worst for lock closures. We were lucky that we didn't get effected by it, but only just. Plenty of friends from the marina got caught out and stuck in places.

Another day, another lock failure... Its getting to the stage where we don't want to risk going outside our stretch of the river for fear of getting stuck the wrong side of a broken lock. Might have to downsize to a canoe - at least I could carry that around any broken locks!

Went though again today. What they don’t tell you is they want you to bunch up and wait for others. Which can be upto an hour. I’ve no issue with waiting but it’s every single time now and I’ve always been the one happy to help and wait and not a single person has said thank you and that includes the keepers. You can literally see my mooring from the lock but zero bucks given.

It’s going to be the whole summer and beyond.
