Having gone through nearly two years of somewhat troublesome Windy ownership (nowt against Windy) I have gained a vast amount of knowledge from the good people on this forum, and of course the engineer that services my boat. The latest of which is the exhaust riser debacle.

My suggestion therefore (Kim are you listening!) would be to have technical repository for use as a reference library. A kind of FAQ, where people don't have to do a "search" to wade through hundreds of posts. Information such as my risers, or indeed anything could be accessed from a link - or maybe another forum category??

What does the good panel think?

As it happens there will be such a system on a new boats site come September - it will allow you to store documents into a library and retireve them in many ways, by boat type, make, ctageory etc. It will also accept word files and print out the docs locally in acrobat etc.

It will also link each part of a document to other resoureces so for example, you can spin off into the engines section if you wish. It a dedicated system designed for boating.

Forum software as such is not really designed to do the same job.

I am providing it myself as part of a major marine site being launched in September. The site itself is very wide in scope and in depth and covers almost every aspect of the marine world. Such a technical knowledge base is part of it - anyone will be able to just browse their disc and upload documents as well as retrieve them.

ooh yes, and I will be hoping for more information about waterjets and red diesel as there seems almost no information whatsoever about these anywhere on the web. However, i can't imagine many people will be interested in semidisplacement boats, really.

It will not have anything from me or my views in it - It will be a system that enables anyone to contribute in a multitude of ways ... so knowing now that I will never contribute to it ... it must be a hit :)
