Technical question...

Looking on Volvo site the AD41 with DP drive weighs 520 Kg and a 4.3L with DP drive weighs 428 Kg - now wether the drives are the same etc. etc. i dont know.

Hope that helps

I would have thort a D3-190 would be a better swap with a Vortec V6, as it's a much lighter engine there wouldn't affect the trim so much...

The other thing dave is the length. the AD41 is a 6 pot motor and quite long. A couple of AD31P 150hp or KAD32 170hp would be an option or as DV suggests, the new D3 range. A mate of Kev B has just fitted D3 190s in his Fairline targa 27 and shes nearly a 40knot boat now. Cost a fair whack though.

I have replaced the V6 petrols with a pair of KAD32P's in my Fairline Targa 27.
She is about 3 inches lower in the water at the stern but I have moved loads of the accumulated junk forward and it almost levels her out.
As for performance, 32Knots WOT on B6 duo props with the original 290 drives and yes the gear ratios are wrong but I think the performance is acceptable .

Probably the primary plus for the AD41s are that they are relatively old tech and pretty much bullet proof by comparison to the more modern engines. being older they will be a fair bit cheaper as well. £5K each from Coastal Rides? Trim in a bit:-)

Seriously, I'm a tyro with internal combustion engines and don't mind spannering the 41, there are no clever electronics to diagnose or clutches to check. If only the oil pressure sender was labelled as such:-)

Glad stuff arrived ok - that excellent!

with the drives, i know the gear ratios are different - what i meant to say (and didnt!!) was i think the 4.3 has a DPG drive where the AD41 is quoted with a 290 leg, and i cannot find anything about weight of drives,

But ....

an AD31 weighs 443 Kg with drive and a KAD32 weighs 475kg with drive, so the 30 series might be a better choice.

You can keep your drives if they are 290’s and have a ratio of I think it is 1.81:1 which I know the V8s did have but I think the V6s might be 1.68. Sorry used to know the exact ratios off the top of my head but old age is setting in.

Col is the expert on these and the best person to ask.
