Hi, I need to replace the teak cockpit seating on my 1988 Dehler 34 and was wondering whether anyone has been through a similar exercise (on any yacht) and could pass on some advice?
Cheers,
Adrian

I have just added new teak strips to the seats on my Elizabethan 23. I purchased the teak from K J Howells and they look a treat. I through bolted the strips using M5 bolts and penny washers. Each strip was bedded down on a thick layer of Sikaflex, and each bolt hole was filled with sikaflex before inserting the bolts. It is watertight so far. The wood was then treated with Deks Oljie to waterproof.

Hope this helps.

Good choice in boats! I had my Dehler 34 done a couple of years ago & very pleased with the results. Basically you have 2 options:

1. Get a shipwright to do it for you-mine cost about £650. (this was an independent chap-suspect its a lot more if a boatyard does it) If you are berthed anywhere near Portsmouth PM me & I'll give you the chaps details.

2. Make some pattens of the existing panels & get them made up & fit yourself. K Howell's Poole are well thought of for price & quality & very helpful. Taking the old panels off can be a bit difficult but not to bad I'm told and the new ones just bed down on sikaflex.

The originals are just teak faced ply-my guy used 5mm strips on a marine ply backing which will hopefully last much better and finished the edges with Colean.

Hope this is of some help.
