I am in the process of building 2 teak doors for my wheelhouse. The problem is that I only have enough teak for the frames and am thinking about staining some iroko for the infill panel (above will be a sliding window).

One guy in the yard was horrified that I would even consider it (particularly when I promised to paint the lot in B&Q's best exterior gloss ;)).

What is the panel's view - OK or sacrilege?

Why not buy a quarter sheet of double sided teak ply and make the panels out of that, much better than iroko, which is likely to split. Or make your own teak faced ply with teak veneer, even cheaper.

The panel size is 20" x 19", so with the joints I am effectively looking for 2 sq ft per door.

Colin, I want to profile the panels, so ply is out.

Seanick, wash your mouth out with soap. :p
