Have a small Yacht in need of new Teak Deck.
The ring or side deck is past its best the cockpit ,bridge deck and coachroof have some life.
The ring is 21 sq, mts and the rest is 21 sq.mts.

Teak replacement.
Spain ( near Barcelona)
42 k euro plus tax with me stripping existing deck and fittings
Portugal (Lagos)
42 k euro plus tax doing all work
UK (very near Felixstowe)
15 k £ plus tax plus teak about £5K for side decks only, with me doing all prep work and all replacement.
Probably about 150 man hours I will have to put in.

Teak only for 21 mts sq is about £ 6k from uk merchant, I have then to fit

Teak from USA all template and ready to fit in panels is £ 20k plus tax (if I fit in UK), sitting on pallets in USA

All above 10 0r 12mm quarter sawn.

UK company that can work from templates and supply panels is similar to USA but have not pushed for full price.

Turkey, should be cheaper; but they like to fit thin teak on ply then fit panel.

Columbia , cheaper still; but will I be able to manage them?

Flexiteak , this about £ 15 k for whole toy, fitted plus tax; but I have to strip existing and fittings , plus make good. Then refit is a total pain as all winches and deck fittings have to have Flexi cut out and solid base cut in.
If I was allowing 150 man hours fro removal make good and replacement with teak , my guess is this will be another 50 hours work ,also deck has to be 100% as plastic will show where teak will cover any bad repair.

Anyone any other ideas ?

Maybe North Germany, the Portuguise buy there teak from this area and Hanse make some very good boats.

Simultaneously answered my thread on whether I should buy a boat with a teak deck or not!

Hi Simon,

I was just wondering how you calculated the amount of hours it would take to lift the old teak off your deck.

Is it 150 hrs for 40sq mtrs; 3-4 hrs per sq mtr?

There's cork - no idea what its properties are, but it can look quite nice. Can be laid to look like classic teak or seamless. Seen it on a few yachts now, including brand new fancy ones where it looked very nice. Couple links, many more suppliers around: https://seacorkfloor.com/cork-decking-for-boats/ http://www.marquipt.com/marineDeck.html http://www.yachtdecking.com/en/cork

The latter one also does "Greenteak", which is thin teak strips laminated into planks. Sounds terrible to me, but maybe it isn't.

And finally there's just finishing the deck with non-slip surfacing of some kind.
