Teak deck repair

I need to lift and re-fit some of the teak on our cockpit seats, as water has got underneath. I remember reading an article in PBO years ago about this, and at some point tape was inserted, but I can't remember what it was supposed to seal from what. I have checked previous YBW postings on this subject but without success. Can anyone please advise ?

I assume you are talking about bond breaking tape.... see here on the robbins timber site for more detail. it allows the caulking to just stick to the sides and move.
