Sailorman suggests cascophen as best, or west, (which I presume is epoxy).

I really dont like using 2 part stuff, and it's probably a bit late to get some cascophen delivered as I leave on Thursday early.

Is there a single part waterproof wood glue I can buy that would do the job, and could I get it from B & Q, or is their a specialist shop in/near Manchester where I could get it.

I'd possibly buy cascophen if I could walk into a shop and buy it off the shelf.

waterproof PVA wood glue is what I now use. (varnish inside)
I used to use epoxy, until it was pointed out to me as the decks wear, the glue stands proud with a sharp edge, never seen this, but it could I guess, since then its been PVA. Its available at B&Q. They even have a rapid version.
Once the plug is in, wash any excess glue off.-, then it doesnt stain the deck.
 
Thats not the stuff I use, thats more for your sealing walls I think. The stuff I use comes in a smaller squeezy bottle. With a nozzle on. PVA waterproof wood glue. I'd go down to B&Q's and have a butchers, they will have what you need. Dont use balcotan, when it foams, it pushes the plugs back out!!
I normally dip the plugs in a lid of the stuff, and then tap them in, seals well.
 
Humbrol "Extra-mite", what used to be "Cascamite", one shot powdered resin glue, mix whatever you need with water. Waterproof, sets hard. Sold by Travis Perkins etc so you should be able to pop out tomorrow and pick some up.
 
polyurethane is very very messy gets ball over the fingers.hands, tools.

mix some extramite to a thick creamy mix, de-grease with something like meths, tip some mixed glue onto a flat board get one of the "superbly manufactured" Teak pellets dip the end into the glue then align the grain in the hole & tap home, clean off flush nxt day. chisel off slightly cross grain this will avoid the pellet splitting off uned the surface of the surrounding wood

was the response when asking for Extramite, Cascamite, at B & Q, and 3 local hardware stores, (one of which my builder uses a lot. One said try Screwfix, as they have a store in Trafford Park, but nothing on the website.

I did find a product which was rated as D3/4, not for use in permanently immersed situations..... I'm wondering if that would do the job?

Anybody?

Thanks for that - I've done the same search, but it's too late to order online - I leave for Malta at 7am Thursday. Should've done this weeks ago /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Hence the need for a real live shop with it in stock /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif anywhere within say 30 miles of Manchester.

Would the D3/4 do the job?
 
If its going to be that much of a problem maybe resort to epoxy and forget the hard edge after many years of wear!!
 
Found a shop which sold Lumberjack Polyurethane glue with a D4 spec... Hopefully it wont be too messy /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks to all for the help ... at least I knew I was looking for a D4 spec..

Used epoxy on the larch deck of my old boat, went many years without any problem and I am sure teak wears less than softwood

Your best bet is Polyurethane glue, B &Q sell it by the tube or if you go to a merchant something like Lumberjack.

Just test glued 1 plug .... only a very small depth for it to get a grip, and I'm not too keen on removing the screws and drilling the hole deeper.

Anyway, dipped the plug in the glue, popped it in the hole, and held it down with the washboard.

after about an hour it seems fairly solid, but the glue has foamed to form as ring around the plug. Decided I couldnt wipe it off whilst fluid as it would disturb the plug. Plan to chisel the plug flush in the morning, and hpe the glue will chisel away with the plug.

Am I being optimistic - should I wipe the excess glue off before it goes hard?

However, I have just chiselled off the test one and it hadnt stuck properly so only half of it was left in the hole - probably due to the lack of depth available - not quite sure what to do now?
