I am laying teak planks 55mm wide without rebates with 5mm gaps for a cabin sole and want to know what sealant I should use. Sika do a deck caulking but as its inside do I need such a high spec / exspensive sealant. It needs to be white and only for sealing the seams as Im fixing down by screwing from behind through plywood.

the problem using a sealant on a cabin sole is that it will not stay white for very long. With a similar problem I had some sycamore cut into thin strips and glued it in. Holly is OK too, but having seen the results of mastic suggest you avoid it unless you are prepared to accept black

Is that a good idea?

[/ QUOTE ] Is that a good idea? How thick is the teak? Wouldn't it be better to glue it down?

Re: Is that a good idea?

Holly or any stable white wood, would be far superior to any "sealant", as has been mentioned.
