Does anyone have any idea where i can purchase some replacement teak and holly sole boards.

I need to to replace a small section 650mm x 360mm, that has been water damaged by a leaking mast gaiter.

The only problem I have is that the stripes are narrower than the boards offered by timber merchants i can find like Robins in bristol.

My teak is 40mm with a 4mm holly insert, I have managed to find a place in the US that offers 40mm teak and 4mm holly and they have called it Narrow strip, The only problem is they won't ship to the UK.

Does anybody have any ideas where i may be able to source this, it really would finish the cabin off nicely.

Thanks
Shaun

OH Dear ! ....... I've only just re-finished mine and thought they looked rather good!. However I do tend to cover them up with shagpile bathroom mats which are great 'cause you can simply shake all the mess overboard /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Seriously, that size is an odd one. The usual is 60mm / 5mm.

One possibility is to buy 2.6mm teak veneer from Robbins and make your own by laminating onto 12 or 15mm ply. You might have trouble getting holly but ramin as sold in B&Q in the moulding section is a good alternative.

A S Joinery tel 079 749 80021 Unit 1, Cabin Boatyard, Bridge Road, Burseldon, Southampton. Two of the six panels in my LM 30 cockpit were badly damaged by water so he made new ones to exactly match. Each one was about two foot square and the total cost was £179. The result was superb. I considered using the glue on laminate sold by Toomer & Hayter to resurface all six lids but I stripped and repaired the other 4 and fitted new hardwood edges and the result is much better than would have been achieved by the laminate.

At the London boat show I noticed the sole boards on the Oysters were a very nice rectangular pattern parky type of flooring.
The next best I've seen is on the Island Packets where they use 3 types of wood to excellent effect.
I redid my sole boards over the winter with teak/holly boards from Robbins but would have prefered to have had the narrower strips that shaung is refering to that the boat originally came with.
I think Bamptons did them but not 1/2" thick.

Where are you based? if you buy new wood you would have to buy a large board at at least £50plus quid, I have some pieces that were taken from a boat replacing its floor, Its used but not really damaged, there might be just the right sized piece,

Depending on skills and tools there is the option of fitting teak veneer to ply then routing and filling grooves with machined timber strips. Time consuming, however less so than laminating in strips, but it would give you a solution. Achieved an accurate fine line to hide my wobbly cutting between varnished ply deck and hardwood rubbing strake using this technique.

Thank you everyone for the help

Endevour Quay - The boat is in chichester so Gosport is not far away, I have been to your shop a few times - If you have an odd piece 605mm X 360ish mm it would be much appreciated and a donation for it would be more than made.

If not i will try bamptons, then on to where i was trying to avoid, either veneering a piece of ply or laminating solid strips of teak on holly, for the small size of the piece i may be tempted to try the solid route.

Thanks again
