TCS Chandlery have closed their Southend shop

Nothing sinister.
One of the brothers has moved to Kent, dad wants to retire, the lease came up for the Southend shop, they decided not to accept the new lease offer, so Grays run by Rob, Wallasea run by Jon.

No need to worry.

And I here that Marinestore will close Walton (Titchmarsh) on lease expiry........shame

That is a pity, we always had a browse round when we visited and often spent a few shekels. They did downsize a couple of years ago, so not as good since.

A marina without a chandlery is a real pain if you arrive there and need bits for something or other.

I agree. The deciding factor in moving Nutmeg to Maldon is the Marinestore chandlery on site. Very handy indeed, especially as I am no longer allowed to drive!

That is a very sad fact of life now. Punters will wander have a look & a feel, go home & buy cheaper online, I try & buy local if I can to try & keep the "little guy" going.

The loyalty we used to have years ago has all but gone now, but it also needs to be reciprocated by the buyer & seller.

Disaster for me if the Walton Marinestore closes; I think my record was to go in & buy stuff 5 times in one day in the Spring. Where is the nearest chandler to Walton? Foxes is really good but must be a 40 minutes drive away.

I would have thought 40 mins would be quite good going with benevolent traffic. Luckily Foxes is only 10 mins from here. Woolverstone is nearer, but is nearly always shut on the occasion I have gone there, and if open does not have what you want. How far is Maldon time wise? Even then there is nowhere to park!

I suspect Brighlingsea would be the nearest by road from Titchmarsh.

As an aside, Woolverstone now has two brokerages/dealers on site which seems a bit of an overkill!

There is even a new word in the OED:

showrooming, noun:
the practice of visiting a shop or shops in order to examine a product before buying it online at a lower price. [ORIGIN early 21st century: from SHOWROOM ‘a room used to display goods for sale’.]
