Anyone else got this set up. I find that if the heater hasn't been used for a few days when I fire it up the burner seal leaks and I get a mass of yellow flames. A simple nip up with a spanner and it behaves all night. I'm at a loss to explain what's happening. Its been going on for a few years. I though the burner might be cracked but it looks sound. The nut feels tight when the burmer is cold and the aluminium washer is sound. Its good entertainment for visitors but can't understand why it keeps happening. I wondered if anyone else has this problem.

I used to get the same issue when I used a Taylors cooker with brand new Hanse burners. It was a total PITA and I never understood what was happening; it was impossible for young crew to get the confidence to even boil a kettle.
I gave up and sold the cooker, and changed fuel type, even though the paraffin cookers and heaters are brilliant when working correctly. Sorry not to have a solution, but you are not alone...
Never had the problem with the old burners. Why did you replace yours?

I'm not sure if it helps but the Hanse burners seem to like operating at a lower pressure than the old ones. I use 15 psi with some success . I also dispense exactly 20 ml of meths to light them . There is a lot about the cooker on my blog which may help you.

Just a thought but I have a valve in between the pressurised tank and the stove which I turn off when leaving the stove for anytime. Could it be that the pressure is a little too much for the control valve on the burner leading to a slight weepage past it and hence too much fuel hence the mass of yellow flames?

I’ve the same heater and burner and have had this flare up at times, even not long after a complete clean of the burner. Quite alarming as it has been OK otherwise. I’ll try the lower pressure and maybe check that I haven’t recycled the seal too often. The extra valve between burner valve and pumped tank doesn’t seem to leak.

The heater came with the boat when I bought it many years ago. The burner was worn out and had been subjected to abuse by the previous owner. I bought a replacement but it was one of the very poor quality Indian manufactured ones which was so bad I returned it. The Hanse burner is better quality than the original but heavier. It needs twice as much meths and a glass wick in the priming cup to get it going. Performance and reliability has been excellent apart from the leak on start up. Its pretty baffling. Its almost as if the heat cool cycles cause the nut to unscrew which seems a bit far fetched. Maybe I'm too gentle with it.

I lost patience with meths, (the Hanse burners need more preheating as you say) and used to pre-heat the burners with a gas blowlamp, highly effective.. but I did subsequently wonder if the extra fast heating was damaging the burner seals.
