I know you meant it kindly but I can assure you I have no intention of evading tax and only asked in the first place to see what others do. I actually find this site very useful in avoiding duplication of effort and was interested to see if there was a universally accepted simple answer. Seemingly there isn't. I will therefore indeed seek professional advice and would certainly have done so anyway before taking any drastic action. As far as being out of the country for more than 5 years is concerned I do indeed intend to move overseas permanently as I have spent at least half my working life abroad (and taken advantage of ex-pat tax breaks when available). The rules are now tighter than they were then but it is still advantageous in certain circumstances I am sure. As a previous post suggested, being entirely mobile and having retired why would I want to return to the UK for more than 90 days per annum anyway? The weather is dreadful, it's expensive, crowded, standards of behaviour have deteriorated almost to the point of anarchy and there is little hope of improvement. Let me out!!!!
