I am looking at a boat in Portugal and it says after the price Tax Paid. will this mean VAT paid or some sort of local tax paid in Portugal any help would be appreciated, Thanks in advance.

Would assume so....

If so, you are free to use without hinderance within the EU.

Its fairly common for boats advertised in warmer locations to be tax unpaid, as they are often charter boats owned by a company who have reclaimed the VAT, so if it specifically says tax paid, sounds positive....

Only way to find out for sure is to ask!

The RYA book 'Buying a Secondhand Yacht' quotes Portugese VAT rate as 19%, as this is more than UK rate I guess your ok even if you brought the boat back here. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Almost certainly they mean VAT and the important point is to ask if the original VAT invoice is available, as that is what proves VAT payment.

Hi there,

The boat you want to buy MUST have a Bill of Sale and you should ask for sight of this before you hand over any deposite moneys as this will tie you into contract. Hope this is of use to you. I have Bavaria 39 3 cabin fully fitted with charter equipment I am looking to sell quarter shares - the Bavaria 39 is a fantastic boat.

Regards,

David Mathias
