Hi, bit of help needed, just bought a pair of Tasco 7x50 compass binoculars from a friend,
problem is they do not come with the instruction manual "Yeh I know you first remove the caps"/forums/images/icons/smile.gif.

The prob is I cannot make head or tail out of the Range Finder Scale or the Object Size all i see is a load of figures which frankly make no sense at all !

So does anyone know of a site where i could find the instructions or possibly if someone has the manual they could photo-copy or scan the relevant page and Email it to me i would be eternally grateful, would pay all costs of course.

many thanks mike

ps, friend has no idea neither !

I have the handbook and can scan if necessary, but not on this PC.

Using the rangefinder:
1) Look through binocular and place the horizontal reticule line at the base of the object (lighthouse).
2) Count the number of divisions from the base to the top of the object eg 1.4
3) Rotate the calculator dial and place this number (1.4) at the Angle Index Mark and find the known height of the object on the scale labelled "Object Size"
4) knowing that the height of the object is 100 ft look to the right of the Angle Index Mark and find the known object height on the scale labelled "Object Size". The number indicated is 10.
NOTE the object size divisions are from 1 to 10. In dealing with the object that is 100 ft high, mentally add a zero to the 10 indicator on the object scale.
5) Now read the distance scale directly beneath the object size. It is 400, but remember, because you added a 0 to the 10 in Step 4, you must add a zero to the 400. Thus the distance from you to the lighthouse is 4000 ft.

I have been happy with these binoculars, the weakest aspect is the instruction book. I have not used the rangefinder seriously, and if I did, I would avoid the use of the calculator on the binocular. The above is close to the instructions in the handbook, but I have made one or two changes to improve their clarity!!!

The batteries are 2 off Union Carbide K389 or equivalent, with side marked + facing up.
