With a small number of us going over the border this weekend, I thought it would be good to have some semblance of agreement as to the dates and location for a return trip, so that we can make an offer while in situ.....

So..... as a suggestion....

How about long weekend of 19th/20th/21st September (Fri - Sun), and location first meet at West Mersea, then on from there... perhaps the Deben or Ore/Alde or maybe to The Roach and a visit to the George and Dragon?, or possibly Bradwell and the Green man, starting from the Backwaters... ideas?

1] Would you be prepared to volunteer yourself and spare berths for the weekend, or will you be coming along with a full crew?... eg lets sort out how many spare berths we'll have....

2] Does this weekend suit?... or does it clash horribly with other plans?

3] What about an outline itinary... any suggestions? (I was trying to think of a sensible location that was equitable in terms of distance travelled)

Thoughts?

Being very optimistic here as I have no idea if we will be up to it by then, but provisional yes from Sixpence and crew, just not sure we will have room to accomodate burly kilted types /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Unfortunately we may be on holiday then but if not then I'd be happy to have some kilted crew for a long weekend jaunt and Mrs M can catch up with gardening.

The George & Dragon closed a few weeks ago and the MOD are in the process of sussing out a new landlord. How the heck anyone could make that place pay I have no idea.

Flipper could offer berths for 2 but be warned headroom is low and facilities are BASIC!! There ia a sea toilet in its own locker, a hand pump cold water in the galley, half a bottle of whisky (hate the stuff myself) and beautiful upholstery.

Also I don't do long slogs to windward in a F6 or above!!

West Mersea as a start point would be pretty ideal for me.

Happy to do that. We will be back from our 2nd Ionian cruise by then. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

As a newly converted hovercraft, I can be anywhere at any state of the tide /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I could be available.
If I am there would be a couple of berths on Sirenia.
I would suggest that we start in an easy to get to venue for the sake of our visitors.
Say the Orwell area.

This was one of the weekends that I was looking at to sail back to Cambridge.
Having looked at it a bit more the tides don't work very well then.

Assuming the invasion starts at Stanstead Airport then only way East by train is to go to Liverpool Street and back out again to Colchester / Ipswich taking > 2hours.

By bus it may be easier to Colchester (75 mins) and then cars / taxis or change bus to go to Ipswich? Brightlingsea has the advantage over West Mersea of a late water taxi on a Friday even if parkign the car is challenging!

East / West travel in the UK is c£&p! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I work 20 minutes from Stansted, aso will go pick up a car load......

after all, they are picking us up from Glasgow airport.

Forgot that some people live & work in less civilised areas than Norfolk (6 toes, call brother in law Uncle etc) /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Flipper can be where ever you suggest (politely) and the weather permits! Tides on Thurs afternoon are good for bringing her up to the Orwell if that is the chosen start point.

Peter,

if everyone is agreed that Brightlingsea is a good starting point, then i'll be sailing down Friday during the day... tides look good for about a 09h00 depart from the Orwell down the Wallet.... would be nice to sail down in company with you...

I would like to get involved but difficult to look that far ahead at the moment. Its in the diary and if I can do anything to help out, I will.

Ok... we'll offer up 19th to 21st Sept....

We can sort out exact berth details nearer the time, but between Jim and I we can cover 7 or 8 without too much trouble....

Plan is to meet at Brightlingsea Friday afternoon/evening.... Kovalam?

Expedition parties leaving from the Orwell and Crouch areas...

Then cruise onto Deben (Ramsholt Arms?) on Saturday, and gentle returns to home bases on Sunday...
