Weve decided after much debate to keep our targa 47 for another season...So decided to generally bring the boat up to date with a massive electronics update, TV's, Fusion and Raymarine.
I've bought so many things from so many suppliers I've lost track and 9 times out of ten I'm disappointed with the finished product.

I spoke to a few people and told them what I wanted and nobody would do it. Then I met Chris Rankmore @ Platinum Marine www.platinummarine.co.uk at the Southampton boat show last year.
I sent a scrappy picture to Chris (a screenshot from a raymarine video) with a really flush fitted glass screen, along with my requirement make it look 2016 (pretty difficult for a 2006 boat).

Just been down today and am blown away at the difference. Its almost like the size of the dash was designed for the raymarine GS series it fits literally perfectly. And not only that the Volvo engines are fully integrated into the system and I've now got a thermal reversing camera for night docking!. Its amazing what some up to date electronics, Re-sprayed panels, a new panel and a new steering wheel can do. Just seems such a rare occurrence for people to exceed my expectations these days , thought I should shout about it when somebody had.

Looks great, how much was the new steering wheel and was it sourced directly from fairline or a third party ? It could be time to update my wheel

cheers

Hi
Chris has done lots of work on our 47, always a perfect job, you wouldn't know he has been on the boat, he has just fitted the same fusion stereo on our boat, after him saying how good it was on yours!
He has just replaced the dash panels on ours as I felt the ours we're looking dull ( the champagne colour), I gave him a ral number for the panels and he had them made and sprayed to fit, it is a perfect job, modernising the whole look. I am saving up for the electrics upgrade, a job for next year!
The electrics on your dash look superb by the way!

Cant recomend the electronics upgrade enough. I initially couldnt see the point in going for the gs glass screen series at about £1500 more over the es series with a knob on it. Its only when you see he finished product do you ahhhhhh that makes sense. The fusion integration and volvo integration is spot on. Ive had extra speakers added and an amp bit chris couldnt talk me into adding a subwoofer as i cant see the point :) but im sure hes probably right. Also cant recommend the camera enough, will make night docking so much easier. London boat show seems to be the largest raymarine discouts of the year make it viable for us. And went we come to upgrade next year i think all of this will make the boat that much more sellable, as there dozens of 47's out there but none for sale with these upgrades.

I believe it was sourced via kelly @ bates marine. Although fairline spares department is now finally up and running again its a bit on the slow side ( for obvious reasons) , i was lucky enough to get this off the shelf with a couple of marks on it, and its very very slightly brown and not black, but got a great discount for colour and marks so i can live with it. Steering wheel makes the boat now gives it a bit of a targa 48 open look.

Regards

Jess

Actually there had has been a second company thats impressed me during this refit. Osmotech. I met mike at the southampton boat show, and he talked sense and although i was asking about proportional dc systems he didnt immediatly push for the most expensive products. At some point some tit had fitted a much too small stern thruster and seperate bow/stern side shift controls, mike had some second hand but correct sized replacements along with an automatice trim tab system which wasnt a lot of money ( about a grand) that using gyros would get the boat on the plane longer And quicker. He also came up with an innovative way of coppercoating the boat in situ at rk marine using a tent and heater saving me an extra lift and a load of money. They rolled in , did the work and rolled and rolled out in record time, no need to project manage them they just got on and did. Cant recommend them enough.

I notice that you are waiting for the targa 47 badge as well, where did he put the fusion cockpit control? Also what are the two switches on the helm right hand side for? Haven't seen them on any other 47's
Osmotic did our stern thruster and wabasco heating, again have to agree with you , on time nice to deal with and left the boat how they found it.

Fusion inc the dab module is full integrated raymarine gs unit, no need for a remote control unit. Zones can be selected , media , volume , stations etc all from main raymarine unit.

Switches on the dash (and vents) are for the seperate helm webasto which was a £4k option new, which almost none have. Really handy for winter months sitting outside with hood down is just like a boat with doors.

Bought the little fairline badges from www.budgetchandlery.com or something like that, but struggling to get a replacment targa 47 badge so may just get the old one refurbished

I am speaking to my sign writer we use in work to see if he can replicate, i could get him to run out 2 if possible if your interested.

Sorry for hawking my services on the forum but I could easily get some 1mm flat cut 316 letters made for you based on the original artwork. Email me a pic and the letter height if you'd like a quote. If more than one of you need them then it would be cheaper.

Brilliant update by the way!

Great update. Looks bang up to date

Someone asked about the new fairline steering wheels: they're about £380 each in the black leather. I bought two beginning of last season. They're flatter and less dished than previous, which I wanted

I have one of those fairline backlit transom shields for sale if anyone wants. In warm white. Bit of a mistake because I wanted cold white and accidentally got a warm white one. 150£, which is about half price. Works on 12 or 24v

What does the backlightt transon shield look like ive not seen one? Any pictures?

Just google image any recent fairline transom. Eg Google image "fairline targa".

If I'm thinking correctly it's about 6 inches tall so no good for this application. It's better suited for a radar arch or transom. I've got pics at home but am away this week.
Pete I'm totally not following your logic. I never mentioned an "application". It is indeed 6 inches tall and obviously goes on a transom or suchlike. Not a dashboard, ffs :)

I know that you know that but the OP might not! And I have a close up pic at home if the OP can't see it from a Google pic. No need for a FFS FFS :) :)!
