Hi, could someone help please? On my Fairline Targa 34, I have two battery isolator rocker switches under the helm seat. The Port switch works perfectly turning the power off to the Port engine, the light on the switch gose on and off as switched. However the Starboard engine switch remains on all the time, the switch does not turn it off, it remains on whatever is pressed?
Is the normal or has something gone wrong and needs replacing?

First thing is to check whether the switch is functioning correctly or whether the lamp has been wired up incorrectly. When you operate the switches you should be able to hear the relays in the engine bay clicking. And of course the starboard side engine lights on the dash should either operate or not when you turn the key. The most likely issue is a corroded switch.

These switches are poorly located for two reasons. First, the space under the helm seat is subject to condensation due to the cockpit fridge cooler being sited there and you can get seawater running down the inside of the compartment if you take a big wave. Second, the switch is in a position where it can get accidentally activated with your thigh which causes strange engine behavior and could damage your engine / ECU.

The replacement switch needs to be a momentary (On)-Off-(On) Carling V Series with an independent white or red lamp.

To save you searching the web for the correct switch I recommend these Carling Contura II Mom-off-Mom with Safety Lock- Universal which give you all of the functionality of the existing switch and incorporate a lock to prevent accidental activation of the switch. They fit in the original cutout and changing them is simple if you label the wires.

Awesome, thank you very much.

The Port engine 'clicks' as expected and light goes on and off, the starboard does not 'click' and light stays on. I have ordered two switches so will swap them anyway as locking seems the way to go. Thanks again.
