Hello everyone,
Could you please give me general feedback on the Targa 30 model, I am still experiencing performance issues with my boat which is currently on A6 props, changing to A7 in a week or so. Current top revs 3200 8 people on board 3/4 fuel, approx 20 knts?.

Engines overheating, do you think it's the props or am I overloading the boat and expecting too much from her??.

Feed back on range, fuel consumption and speed at different revs etc much appreciated/

Thanks and regards

Steve

I guess its KAD32s. Just sold ours but had no problems with performance. I'm sure she was using A6s and could get 30 knots with 5 on board and full tsnks quite easily. 32 at a push with lighter load and following wind/tide.

Eh, KAD32's are supposed to be able to reach 3800-3900 RPM WOT, you're only getting 3200... there's something wrong there, but adding more pitch aint gonna help! Sorry I can't be of more assistance

A6 props clean but damaged, hence new A7's being fitted, hull clean.
cheers
Steve

Ignoring everything else. Changing from A6 to A7 is going to make the problem worse is it not. If your boat isn't reaching full revs, you want to trying A5 or A4 but I think there is more to this than just wrong prop selection. `The engine overheat sounds un-related to me.

Fairline Targa 30 with kad32's were fitted with A7 duoprops as standard, good for 38knots so you have a problem somewhere.
When was she last serviced?
What's it like upto planning speed?
Does she plane quickly or struggle once the compressor kicks out?

Fitting A6's should help with RPM's upto the recomended 3800, if you fit A7's it will cut the rpm's by approx 200.
Possibly fouling or weight issue but recomend full service if not already done.

It's possible to up the cutout rpm of the compressors if it's struggling onto the plane but T28/29 & T30 are flying machines with the Kad 32's so I would seek advice from your local VP agent.

We have a T30 with A7's and will max at about 3800 rpm with a slightly dirty bottom and full load. Comfortable cruise mid to high 20's and mid 30's flat out. Clean and lightly loaded high 30's is possible (max we've had is c.38.5 knots)

Never been a problem and never dropped below 3700rpm. Cruise revs are c.3200

Stick with A7's and investigate further

Severely damaged props can reduce engine revs. Try using one engine at a time and noting the maximum revs from each engine. I'm guessing but you should pull about 2500 rpm with just one engine. If one engine is pulling less than the other thats where to start looking.
Where abouts in NE are you? I may be able to help.

Targa 30 engine problems

Many thanks to everyone for your comments, having spoken to Fairline technichal the boat is having new A7's fitted, I'll post back once I've had a chance to try the boat out in a couple of weeks. If it aint the props then I'm in the hands of the mechanichs.

Thanks again and regards

Steve

Hello.

I have replaced many turbos on the KAD engines due to the exhaust side wearing. Do you find the compressors keep cutting in and out around mid rpm range? If so then you need to remove the exhaust elbow and check the gap between the exhaust turbine and the outer casing. any more than about 1mm and this could give you a problem. I have found that this usually wears at the same speed on both engines.

Good Luck
