Myself and Spyro are intending going and we know some forumites were there last year and are hoping they could make it again this year, as the saying goes, "The more the merrier" especially when some of you carry your own music making gadgetery!
How about letting us know if any of you are intending going.
It might be possible to book a pontoon area so we are all together,in which case we would need to know boat numbers and aprox size, or would this not be a good idea.

I will be there.
Negresco Tom was talking about making the trip too... he might bring his accordion gifted by a sadist at Colintraive.
Another possible is Eilean Alex if he is home from Cloggie-land.
That's five so far. Any chance of a mooring discount for bulk?

I'm bulky, so I will volunteer to phone for the discount.
Clyde Wanderer and Spyro are like a pair of pipe cleaners. No good at all for discounts.

I really liked the new pontoons at Tarbert, and not horrifically expensive either. Sorry I can't be there.

No idea what our plans are for that weekend yet, will just keep a weather eye out for conditions, both financial and chronological as well as meteorological :)

Getting a wee bit chilly towards the end of Sept. Will need to make sure the heater's working.

We're berthed at Largs. If there was a Clyde Scuttlebutt cruise over there, what form would take, where would folk rendezvous?

I have just spoken to the master of Clyde Scuttlebutt cruises, Pete Cooper, who agrees it would be a good idea to have the Sb cruise at the same time as the Tarbert festival.
Maybe it would be a good idea to have the muster at the Cumbrae centre on the fri night (18th sep) as we have done in the past, as this would be more accomadating for those of you who cannot make it to Tarbert on the fri night, though your veiws on this would be appreciated.
Glad to hear all you muscisians and Gordon are going to be there, perhaps you could start busking and make enough to pay all our berthing fee's! I'll supply the hat!

PS Jim (FC) I once worked as a pull through for a rifle!
"Damn" must be that Blarney stone!

Good idea Eamonn, I think you have just become Cruise Director. All you need to do now is make up a quiz.

The usual form is to meet up on the Friday night , berthing at the sailing centre pontoon on Cumbrae opposite Largs, and getting merry in the Scuttlebut bar in the saining centre building. During the evening there is the notorious Pete Cooper Quiz where he tries to prevent the crew of Knight Vision (with some assistance from the crew of Wight Dawn, competing as the Wight Knights) winning. We also discuss where to go the next day.

On Saturday morning, those up early try to remember where we agreed to go and those up later try to remember where they are. Loch Fyne is a popular destination on Saturday and we have sampled the delights of Portavadie Marina (last September) and Tarbert (in April this year) The concensus developing seems to be for Tarbert where there is a folk festival that weekend. Don't worry about the chill factor. You will never notice it.

I wish we were able to come, but we arrive back in Southampton on the Artemis on the Thursday I think and will not be able to defend our unbeaten record in the quiz. (We deserted Edmond and joined up with Falkirk-Dan last time.) I also think that as there seems to be some sort of boat show put on for our return to Southampton, it would be silly not to take a look, so that will delay us another day. I hope you all have the usual great time and that I can make the next one.

Thanks Ian, but I would rather if Pete could do it as I am not much good at that sort of thing.
If we could get some idea of numbers sooner than later, so we could reserve some berths at Tarbert for the sat night, as it would be easier to cancel berths than not to get one at all.
Ken, you omitted to mention the ear bashing singers, the highly strung guiters and the mouth watering harmonica's, oh and the harmonal barman!

Eamonn dont think I will make it as if all goes to plan will be retruning from 2 weeks sailing the Med that week end. So a chance for some else to win the Pete Cooper quiz.

I don't know yet if I can make it. The good ship Amaranthe has yet to taste water this year, but I hope to remedy that soon. I ran the idea by Mrs C and got a grumpy face, but I am sure that I can sweet talk her round:-)
Does anybody else fancy setting a quiz?
Has anyone any other ideas for entertainment on the Friday night?
I would like the event to raise some money for charity as usual, so if anybody has anything suitable for raffle prizes please either let me have it before or deliver on the night.
Hope I can make it, Pete.

Likewise,
Can't be sure enough to commit just yet.

We've only been out a couple of times this year, but with a 5 hr drive to get up there it's not always practical. Tends to be a last minute "what's the weather: let's go" type decision on the Thursday afternoon. (I can "work from home" on the friday, isn't marina wifi wonderful :D )

Clyde Scuttlebutt

Hi to all,

Last month we stopped off at the CWSC one Friday on our way to the club muster at Rothesay. Thoroughly enjoyable evening was had and we were made most welcome by the staff……so definitely looking forward to our next visit.

Regarding the evenings entertainment:
1 Divide the group up into equal teams (all dependant in total number of group).
2 Each member donates an agreed figure to the Duty Treasurer.
3 ½ of total to go to an agreed charity (as already mentioned).
4 ½ to be presented to the winning team (and they get the beers in).
5 Each team in turn provides a member to perform as the evenings entertainment with either a song, monologue or tall tale etc.
6 Team members are allowed multiple turns.
7 Last team standing wins the evening.

Only a suggestion….so no hard times please!

And being an ex Submariner I only know rude songs…..so I might have to learn some newer more acceptable material....or after the watershed?

If you don't want to do the quiz I'll do it again unless anyone else wants to offer.

Music - what music ?

Gordon,

Don't know if I can bring the squeezebox cos I left it a the Colintraive hotel on the night it was gifted to me by Sandy and I doubt whether the big one would fit in the boat. May substitute a guitar instead.

See you at Tarbert unless you want to berth on Negresco?

Well I sure hope the weather is much improved by the 18th, as if it is any worse Hummingbird will be comming out instead of heading to Tarbert.
Great to hear you are going to make it Tom, would it not be possible to treat Sandy same as the squeeze box, squeeze him!.
Have we any more names for the meet up at Cumbrae on the fri eve?
I sure hope the weather is kind to us.
Fingers crossed.

News from Eilean Alex is that he possibly wont make it this year which is a real shame, but other commitments must be taken care of.
