I see from YM that the new Harbour Master at Tarbert is Peter Bates.

I wish him well with his appointment.

Beaulieu River

Beaulieu also gets a new Harbourmaster in February as John Edwards is retiring.

Mark Wakelin, ex Padstow HM and Norfolk Broads. Good luck to him, too; he'll need it with the likes of StugeronSteve and Clive Rigden on his patch. Also somebody called Tom Cunliffe - name rings a bell somewhere? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Beaulieu River

I also wish Mark all the best - got to know him during his recent sojourn with the CA - very decent guy. Don't suppose he'll get so many jokes about his name as Peter though.

Oooh Matron

Yes, it was pointed out to me by PM that I hadn't quite got it.....

I'm obviously getting old.

Best thing about Tarbet is the book shop...great place for books and paintings nautical...apart from that its like sailing the Solent...mainly mobed with drunken "Sunsailors"...I sail the West coast of Scotland to get some peace and quiet...only 10 minutes round the corner a great spot behind Barmore Island with great walks around the Stonefield Castle hotel gardens....a truely idealic spot.

Very rarely get as far round as the bookshop.
Victoria, Tarbert Hotel, Anchor, Corner House, Islay Frigate etc. etc.
Although... in my yoof I did make the Columba.

I always think of the Munster House when I see the Columba - There's another one at the top of the Slip in Brightlingsea that looks similar
