I am looking for some tank level senders for my diesel and water tanks that use electrical capacitance to measure the height of liqued and convert to either resistance or 4-20mA current signal. Does any one know of a supplier.

Thanks

I've just replaced my 20 year old VDO tank sender with a new unit from VDO (via Lucas). Why make it complicated by going to capacitance? The new VDO unit is a beauty - they have removed the wire wound potentiometer and substituted a printed resistor arrangement which should be much better able to withstand the constant fretting at tank full level which eventually caused the failure of my unit.

Steve Wilson at Siemens VDO was extremely helpful in identifying the correct unit.

Roger,
would any of these http://snipurl.com/f1fa be of use to you.

I have contacted the company, and they can see no reason why the "E50334 12 volt diesel level meter" cannot be securely mounted externally to the tank via pipework and isolation valves using copper pipe. I intend to fit one next winter during lay-up.

Alternatively, "E50333 12 volt water level meter" could be used if the sender adaptor unit is suitably fuel resistant. As it is, it can be used for water.
