I have a Princess 415 fitted with TAMD61A's. Towards the end of this season I have experienced overheating on my starboard engine when i'm up at 2700,2800rpm has anybody experienced this before or will i have to start dismantling.

I have serviced the oil cooler (common fault) and checked for the obvious strainers, water inlet etc.

Stevie me laddo, I will lay a pound to a peice of poo that your 61a's are about 10 years old and I will tell you exactly where your problem is as this has happened to at least three 61a's of that age that I know of including mine.

It is the oil cooler, take it (them) off, you will find loads of crud in there, in my case over a pound of stuff that looked like dirty lumpy flour. Then rod through all the tubes and problem solved.

As this is my first reply to any posts please bear with me, not used to this internet thing, usually leave it to the kids. I have 61 a,s in my 388 and from time to time work on other boats. On holiday this year my friends 385 suffered overheating I did all the usual stuff but to no avail after a total strip down of all the raw water system , pipes, heat exchanger, intercooler, exhaust elbow, I then removed the whole sea water pump assy to find at last, the inlet hose blocked with about 6 or 7 pieces of old broken impeller blades, these were from a previous failure 2 years before when the exhaust actually melted togetherand caused the engine to stop.If it is not this then start with the usual things first and keep going until you get there, you are lucky 415's are alot easier to work on than most !

The engine oil cooler is on the left side of the block low down looking forward, oil is cooled by the closed internal system and not likely to effect the running temp too much, unless there is an oil circulation problem then it would overheat the internal water, good luck, are you moored on the south coast ? try e mailing me good luck Paul
