I've found loads of old threads on Volvo type 90 anti freeze and alternatives. As this my first year of mobo ownership please excuse my nervousness regarding cheaper alternatives, but, are there cheaper alternatives? And, should I use premix or concentrate?

Cheers

For all my KAD engines throughout the years..... green concentrate from local truck centre and I source soft water locally. I buy in bulk (2 engines, replaced annually regardless of hours) - think 20 litres of green concentrate is approx 45 euro (so 2 engines) and I get the soft water for free. Very cheap imho and not exactly a hard task.

I have always used the VP green pre mix, it’s no more expensive than mixing your own and uses de ironised water.

5 litres Volvo Penta ready mix marine A/F.
50 % diluted, presumably with some very special VP water, only 2.5 litres of actual antifreeze. £20.00.
Nice plastic bottle tho !

Generic undiluted Longlife is around £35.00 for 20 litres from Ebay or your local motor factor.
.........add your own special water, about 50p per cubic metre.
Buy Volvos own anti freeze for your truck and its about 50% cheaper .....
