I've spotted a contender for Cozzy III

2004 VP TAMD 75P on 360 hours. Obviously engine survey will be undertaken if I make a bid but any advise on this model engine is very much appreciated at this early stage.

I have them in my new boat, so if would buy them then ....... Well enough said.

There are a few quirks that have let them down in the past but nothing major, a good simple motor.

What are they in?

My current boat has them which I have owned for just over 2 years. Absolutely no problems at all during that period of ownership. Bought my boat with 230 hours on the clock, now done 365 hours. Never had to add oil or coolant between services. For a simple,mechanically fuelled engine I find them to be smooth running. Bags of torque which matches well with boats of between 42-48 ft in length. Servicing parts are not too stupid in cost terms........I only buy VP filters etc.........there may be cheaper variants.

After months waiting and much searching abroad, wasted money on flights and hotels the boat I found was right under my nose sat on the Hamble, in the end we found the right boat for us. A 2004 1 owner Phantom 43, and for the first time ever its a boat I can just use and relax with, and of course get the polishing rag out every now and then.

Any issues with smoke at stat part up?

It's occurred to me that a shaft boat with above water exhausts and older generation motors may suffer this problem?

Hi Kevin, it certainly does.
When I watched the log hit 30 knots I was happy, it kept going up, I was even happier!! Good job there were no fuel flow meters, I think that would have knocked the smile off for sure. The main thing is the cruise rpm which is where my old boat wasn't really on top of itself.
