Hi,
Wonder if anyone could help me with fuel figures vs revs for the Volvo TAMD 63P? Mine are fitted in a Pearl 43, but I'm guessing the consumption/rev curve will be similar in any boat?
I plan to do some longer trips this summer and want to know if it's worth slowing down?!

I have those engines in my Sealine F43 and I achieve approx 1MPG at 20Kts or 20GPH, whichever figure you wish to use. This would be at about 2350~2400 RPM.

It is also dependent on sea state of course and how clean your props and "bottom" are! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I had these in a Fairline 36 Sedan 85 litres per hour at 25 Knots cruising 2650 23 knots at 2500 65 to 75 l/hr

I have these in an Aquastar 48 Semidisplacement 2500 rpm 19.5 knots 85 litres per hour 6 litres per mile.

I am going to fit a apir of Floscan fuerl metres this winter to find out exactly what they burn at each RPM because i dont have a clue.

The Volvo Penta fuel curves are not a lot use as they tell what the engine will develop in KW As you dont know what your propellers will absorb at various RPM its a very rough guide only of maximaum consumption.

Say your prop is manufacted to absorb 95% of the available power at max 2800 RPM possibly at 2300 rpm for example your prop will only absorb 70% of the available power. Unless you measure the fuel rack travel or you measure the fuel burn rate ( floscans) you wont know and each boat will vary slightly.

Nope, not really, I had 63p's in my Phantom38, once planing at 2000 rpm to about 2500 made no difference in mpg.
Obviously, the burn rate went up but so did the speed.

Volvo recommended max rpm less 200 for efficiency, as long as you're not flat out I guess, the boat will tell you when she's running well. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
