The new fuel tanks leaked, how would a tank maker not test before dispatching, terribleopportunity lost for introducing new material for fuel tanks
Yes. Just because those tanks were inadequate (and just as well Leo tested them prior to installation) it doesn’t mean that all plastic tanks are unsuitable. Wrong grade/gauge and poor execution by the fabricator are the problem here. The material looked far to soft to me for such large tanks. I don't think he selected the right choice of material. Clearly the company had quality issues which is reflected in the lack of testing, the comments from another plastic welder and I suppose, the easy acceptance of a paid for return and offer of refund. I think the company knew they were shit tanks.
But Leo’s sentiment that “not good enough for Tally Ho!” I think would prevent these very poor quality tanks being fitted for whatever purpose, it’d be alien in what is otherwise an exceptional quality build. I think the tanks should be returned to sender, rubbish.I quite agree. Tek tanks would be the way to go. However he could keep his existing tanks and simply fit a bladder as they do in aircraft. The ones aircraft use are self sealing as an added bonus.

They have been. And he’s got a full refund.
I have suggested that he stop messing about and fit Monel tanks so they can be re-used for the next rebuild in 100 years’ time,
Shipping costs?I don't know why did didn't get the tanks from Tek Tanks in the fist place rather than a US company. Tek Tanks are a brilliant product and well know in the industry.
Am I right in thinking that he named the company in the episode where he ordered the tanks? Even if not, I'm struggling to understand what can be said that would mean it was unwise to name and shame.Who knows what has been said and why the tanks were shite.
I think Leo is wise beyond his years. When he was having trouble with one of his neighbours in Sequim he was careful not to disclose his exact location for fear of internet vigilantes turning up and making things worse. (When you've got 430,000 subscribers it's a fair bet that some of them are going to be nutters. ) A similar situation could arise here if he names and shames the plastic tank supplier, and in a the litigious US environment he might end up facing unnecessary legal complications.Am I right in thinking that he named the company in the episode where he ordered the tanks? "I want to buy some tanks to this design"
"Yes Sir, that'll be $XXX, delivered to Port Townsend"
"Your tanks are badly made and they leak"
"Sorry Sir, send them back and we'll refund"
Silence...
If a couple of phone calls didn't get things moving. my next move would be a letter that starts, Dear Sir, Unless...
I don't know if there's an equivalent of the small claims court in the USA, but even if not, I'd bet there's a lawyer or two among Leo's followers who be happy to take it on.
He needs to get afloat then he can slip over to Canada, maybe visa problemsI am getting the impression that Leo Sampson is coming under time pressure. I’m sure that shed is expensive but I feel that there’s more to it than that.
