Hope everyone enjoyed the Tall Ships today. It was absolutely crazy out there, but very impressive to see some wonderful beasts of the sea. Interestingly most were less than 20 years old.

It was very challenging conditions, with boats coming from all angles. Most yachts were motorsailing, and most powerboats behaved impecably, apart from an idiot in Mad Rain who decided to slalom on full plain amongst the maelstrom of sea and boats. Absolute w****r. My 10 yr old daughter recognised it ; turns out its also at Campers. I 'shook my fists' at it as it came charging through the scrum out there, but chickened out from saying anything when we got back to Campers.

On consideration I should either have invited him out for him to experience motorsailing in close confines is like, or if I had the balls, asked him which market stall he works with his barrow.

Chill out, Jeremy

There's simply no point talking to someone like that. If they are going to be that gormless on the water they aren't going to turn out to be "gosh, golly, how stupid of me, thank you for bringing that to my attention.." types on land.

They are more likely to offer a succinct, aggressive and biologically impossible suggestion as to the appropriate geographical location for your kind words.

They'll have learned nothing and it'll take the gloss off a good day's sailing and photographing for you. The Tall Ships should have reported them to Port Control.

I disagree
never put down to malice what you can put down to ignorance
what is the point ranting here??????
and then, when faced with the opportunity to take someone to task and MAYBE correct them so it doesn't happen again, you say nothing
its spineless

...It was like that when i found it!

I see nothing wrong with naming and shaming here. As for talking about it to the driver when back in the marina not sensible as the driver is bound to be defensive and probably offensive as well and could lead to a situation that would be likely to cause a breech of the peace. Better to radio Campers if he is seen to exceed the 4 knt speed limit in the marina and QHM if doing over 8 in the harbour. It is after all a safety issue.

it is just that i am not sure what it achieves
As long as you are polite i see nothing wrong with just asking someone to be more careful. you never know they may act on it.

Awsome Day - Red Arrows very Impressie when flying around 200m or so above mast!!
Then the Tall ships - great day - only sorry digital cam ran out of juice!!
No Problems with Motor Boats - just one Tw@t in a yacht didn't catch the name!! who stuck to his course even though he was on port causing us to take evading action (this was on way to parade) he then ran parrallel to us for a bit then went below our stern - this incident knocked the confidance of the novice friend who was steering very well and would not go back on helm after that... some people eh!!!

Last year I had to wait more than 3 hours for a lock out. LW Springs conspired to combine with the Festival of the Sea to create mayhem. And I was only visiting!

I waited 2 hours to get out and 2.5 to get back in. When I was getting in I heard radio calls to say there were 7 lock-fulls ahead. At 30 minutes per cycle thats a long wait!

Channel to PS was almost full, with those who couldn't find temporary moorings dancing around each other. Some poor sole even fainted and had to be met by an ambulance on the pontoon.

Was great weather though so everyone didn't seem to mind the wait. All in all a great day out.

Re: Chill out, Jeremy

Thanks for providing a rational justification for the fact that I didnt have the balls to confront him at Campers!

Well - they can sometimes turn out to be very big and fit and younger and then it could all go horribly wrong and you end up getting flattened....I think thats what they mean when they talk about discretion being the better part of valour.
