Hi

I've volunteered a lot in the past for sail training charities. I'd recommend taking a look at the ASTO website (http://www.asto.org.uk/) and contacting a few of their member organisations about booking a vessel - a perfectly normal thing to do as they normally take youth groups, school groups etc.

I've sailed with the Cirdan Sailing Trust and know that they will be more than happy to help you organise a trip. Queen Galadriel, a 110ft gaff rigger, is Solent-based and would be absolutely awesome for an 18th/21st party group - she used to be a Baltic trader so she has TONNES of room downstairs in her converted hold. Their prices are on the website but you'd probably be starting at around a grand or so for a weekend.

I reckon it's an awesome idea - something I considered for my 18th.

Let me know if I can help any more

Why not just send them off on voyages with the Tall Ships Youth Trust (formerly the Sail Training Association)?
They are in Pompey, and have the brig 'Stavros Niarchos' (the other brig 'Prince William is sadly up for sale) along with 4 of Chay Blyth's old Challenge yachts available for all sorts of sailing trips, including in the Caribbean (I think that 2 of the Challenge yachts are currently out here, and hopefully Stavros will be back out here again next winter).
More info about them at http://www.tallships.org/

I went sailing on a tall ship for the first time when I signed up for a 10 day trip on Stavros for my 40th birthday, and it was brilliant.

Another angle:

Southampton Landmarks: SS Shieldhall - Solent Steam Packet, Southampton, Hampshire, SO18 1XT, England, UK

An impressive steamship moored in the docklands at the Ocean Village area of the city, the SS Shieldhall was built in the middle of the 20th century. With a classical steamship design and many interesting period features, the ship is now open to the public and its imposing structure dominates the area.

Is that the same SS Shieldhall which used to ply the Clyde carrying a cargo which was discharged some distance from land?

Do you need one that actually sails or are you after a ship venue?

Kitty, thames barge now based in Ocean Village is a good one for a day out & a party.

If it's a venue you're after HMS Warrior is great for abig party although expensive. A small venue for an interesting meal is the HMS Alliance at the submarine museum. It only sits 12-15 I think though.

In a former life, I have corporately chartered the JR Tolkein through Red Sky and they were brilliant. Well staffed, excellant crew and a good safe time had by all, despite the free bar.

Are you talking about a party on a ship or sending a small group sailing?

In the first case, there is the Warrior - I attended a ruby wedding party and there was a guided tour of the ship followed by dinner in the gun room. Pretty impressive but probably a bit too decorous for 18/21 year olds!

Remember the song Ken?
We're the crew of the SS Shieldhall
Pull your chain and we'll answer your call
The smell of oor aroma
Wid pit ye in a coma........etc
