it's good that they have been found safe (although a long way from intended course ) but considering that 50 per cent of boats pulled out of the event ,one got lost completely for four days ,should not the organisers have read forecast and put the start back a couple of days ?and should not the skippers have read the weather forecast and decided not to participate ,in the interests of safety ? or would this have upset the timetable and sponsors ?
What is interesting is the confirmation of the message about 'going missing'.
If you have a CG66 and a buddy arrangement, the CG will NOT, repeat NOT, start any searching or such malarkey when your buddy rings up and says you are 3hrs overdue with your safe-arrival call.
They will do the same for you and me as they did for this TS. Departure and Destination CG's will start to put out regular calls for you, and for any vessel which may have knowledge of you. It will be 24-48hrs before they think about searching for you.
Cheery isn't it - so carry an EPIRB, they will launch search tootsweet on you firing it off !!
