I'm not proud but think that the world has indeed gone to pot. No doubt someone will inform me I could have bought them elsewhere.....

Almost certainly. Yanmar don't make any of those things.

You might not be able to get a huge discount on the impeller, but alternative oil and fuel filters should be easy to find on somewhere like http://www.inlinefilters.co.uk/.

I bide my time and watch ebay I rebuilt the raw water pump using genuine yanmar parts for £37 odd including post that was the bearings new seals ;-)

I'm still looking for a set of screws for the pump I dont like paying over a tenner for six screws ggrrr

Oil bypass pipe on a YSE8, £110 by the time it was posted to me. Its about 18" long with a couple of banjos brazed on. But to be fair i couldnt find anyone to make one for much less and would not have got it the next day. To be even fairer yet, its a design that is over 40 years old and hasn't been manufactured this century as far as i know.

hey ho, I'm out of the Yanmar parts price frying pan now and in the Volvo Penta fire.

and if i wanted a cheap hobby i wouldnt have got into boating!

Agree it would be useful to have a page somewhere for each common engine, but it really isn't very hard to research for yourself. The site I linked to above has a good cross-referencing system, at least for all the filters I've put in there it's come up with a list of alternatives.

Or just google the part number of the one you have.

Perkins own branded Oil filters for a 225Perkins are £4.30+VAT each.
Direct (minimum order £25)

On the other hand had to pay £10 per filter for a 12kw gen set +VAT ORIGINSL Mitsubishi branding but not Mastervolt.

I was quoted 75 euro in Greecefor the 2 oil filters in 2012

The silliest price I was quoted was for a new B&G wind strut. They are now made in Holland and depending on exchange rate and carrier, it was going to be £625 to £650. Eventually I managed to find a secondhand one on ebay to fix the system.
