we are planning to return to the uk next summer, we are sailing our colvic 50 back and we shall be returning with our pets, a dog and a cat. What is the process for bringing pets back into the uk, they both have pet passports and all relevent documentation. We sailed this year to Gib with our dog and they didn´t even check her papers there. We shall be sailing from Spain. Please advise.

You cannot take your pets back to UK on your boat! No way.
They are only allowed to return, through certain ports, on commercial transport and at certain airports.
You also have to have them worm treated 24 hours before they return, theres a few more regs, but a search on here will show you and I think the DEFRA website. Somebody will know.

As you have the PETS documents, up to date re jabs etc you can take them back. The bad news is you can not enter with them on your own boat. They have to travel by "approved carrier", ie air or ferry. if they travel by ferry they have to be in a car to board.
No less than 12 hrs and no more than 24hrs before check in, they have to be checked by a vet, certified free of worms and ticks. We left from Spain last June and went through this lot, it,s an expensive pain in the.....
I had to sail the boat back from Corunna while Ann travelled with the dog. We had done the same a year before from Camarinas where we had the good fortune to meet a guy willing to take Ann and dog back with him in his car from Santander. You were lucky in Gib, when I was there in 05 they were most dissapointed to find I had all the dogs papers!
We will be off South in May again, but it,s no trouble leaving!!!

Thanks, we have decided to buy a car here and Terry will drive them back on the ferry then fly back over here to sail back with the boat. What a pain, the only thing that is now a worry is the timing with the worm treatment. Anything to make life difficult.

Some ferry companies will take foot passengers with pets on certain routes eg P&O Calais - Dover so it might be worth checking with individual companies
