Taking Dogs accross to France

Has anyone had any practical experience of how the pet passport system works.

We are now keeping the boat in france and will be taking long weekends over there - but SWMBO does not want to keep putting dog in Kennels each time.

After the initial cost and palaver, is it really a straight forward turn up and go situation on the ferries?

Mind you if he ate the cleets - there would be no need for a pet passport!

No, visit to french vet will be required for treatment prior to return, unless trip is so short it can be done before you leave.
Your vet can give you all the details.

... and the dogs will have to have an injection between 24 and 48 hours before their departure back to the UK - not an hour more, not an hour less!

we had our dog immunised, waited six months and learned the procedure. We then learned of how many people get stuck with the wrong paperwork, often issued by french vets, the wrong injection date etc etc. Eventually, we decided it was easier to leave the dog in kennels. Restricting return to just a few ferry companies (and airlines) seems completely daft to me. If a vet can sign a dog off as OK, why can't a local vet sign a dog back in?

Thanks - Doesn't look like a sensible proposition.

Coming back last Sunday night, the car ahead had 2 dogs (italian plates) The whole queue for bording was held up for at least half an hour whilst whatever they had to to was done, much to the anoyance of everyone else, as only one check in was manned.

Jabs, that is what I meant by treatment, although provided it is within the time window it can be done in the UK before you leave.
