taking a barge around the midlands?

i live near leicester and want to buy a barge because of the extra space for my crazy dogs. is there any restrictions at the locks for width, or in areas of the main canals?

A lot of the canals round that way have a max 6ft10" beam, have a look at the CRT website for details.

Frome Leicester you're rather stuck - you can't get beyond Foxton (Market Harborough) in a southerly direction, westerly after the first two (?) locks on the Trent and Mersey.
That leaves you wth the Soar and Trent rivers and they don't connect with much else.

Apart from all tne Northern waterways.

Only as far as Keadby,
Suppose it is a bit more than going down to Limehouse, but the turn in is just as exciting

Yes loads of canals, rivers etc up there that are do-able.
