I have a 2012 vintage Tacktick wind transducer which has sticky bearings. Being now six months out of warranty I'm faced with paying for the solution and the options appear to be sending to Raymarine for repair, I believe a standard charge in three figures (can't find anyone to talk to me at the moment), sending to my local dealer, £55 and repair charged at £50/hr or buying the bearing service kit (TA122) and fitting it myself. Fitting appears straightforward but before I start to disassemble my current unit has anyone any experience of this repair?

Peter.

I had a similar problem with my Tacktick transducer after a couple of years and paid for new bearings - a hefty sum. When the problem recurred I bought some Wurth Ultra 2040 spray (contains ptfe) and squirted it around the fine gap between the static and moving parts. Did the trick within a minute or so. I now bring my wind transducer home every Winter and fix it on a post outside where it whirls away and doesn't seize up. I still give it a squirt of Wurth once a year. Nice to know the wind speed in the garden.
