Our instrument had stopped working. The
bottom of two bearings , had ceased. Other people who have enquired said that Tack tick/ Raymarine said the unit is sealed and not repairable. We found an American entry in the Cruisers forum, suggesting otherwise. With some trepidation we dismantled the £500 unit, took photos, measured bearing, got replacements from SMB bearings in UK and reassembled last night.

Amazingly it now works. Total cost

Good for you; with things like this I always work on the principle that it's already broken, therefore me pulling it to bits to investigate what's wrong and if I can fix it can't possibly make it more broken! :eagerness:

What's the gold leaf paint for?

Covers half of the rotating plastic disc, attached to spindle that turn in the wind. Assume this is pick up for rpm etc in electronics. On disassembling unt, the gold paint came off in places, so touched it up.
