I have one of these only been used a few times but left in box for last couple of years. Batteries seem dead. Left in sun now for a few days. Any one found a way of resurrecting these units as I understand they are sealed for life (even a short life!)

have a search on these forums as there was a thread a couple of months back that had a link to an American site that discussed these instruments. Using Google advance search options with site set as ybw.com is probably easiest way of finding the thread.

Have a look in the forums at here

Go through the search sequence first, they're very fierce to newbies /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Thanks- looked at site and they are not favourable to Tacktic.

Has anyone on here opened one up, replaced the battery and sealed it again.

I am willing to have a go but would appreciate anyone elses experience. Compass is a Tacktic racemaster

There's no problem with opening them up and replacing the battery but you will need to know how to de-solder the old one and solder the new one in. Easy and no harm done.

Re: Tack tic Race Compass-Update

Looked on th companies website and they state battery will last the life of the instrument.

In addition to many unfavourable postings about tacktic on various website I read one where the person left it in the sun for a week and it started working. Left mine in the window for 2 days - no luck, then put it on top of a bush in the garden and after 2 days it appears to be working again. Havn't tried it on the boat though yet!
