I need supports for the drop leaf of a table. I can't use the simple solution of swing-out wooden quadrant brackets because the clearance behind the flap when down is only 7mm, I can't change it, and wood would need to be thicker than that. I could use swing-out quadrants made from steel wire, I have seen these but haven't managed to find a source.
Alternatively I might be able to use over-centre locking folding struts but again I haven't found a source.
Anyone know a source for either please?

(Why? My table has one drop leaf and one fixed side. The drop leaf is supported by slide out tubes that when closed project below the fixed side. I want to make the fixed side into a drop leaf so need to change the existing drop leaf support.)

Hi Mike,

Just a thought but could you use something like a garden gate hinge like these ? Just fit the fixed bit to the table support and swing the other part under the leaf.

How wide is the leaf? You can fit struts that fold away from the centre of the table to lower it. If the table is 500 mm wide, make a 300 mm strut that it hinged 200 mm (approx)from the table. When the table is down the strut hangs down and is covered by the outer edge of the leaf.

I've seen caravan window stays used. You need the locking type though or you could end up with your dinner in your lap!

My names not Mike.....

We just use a wooden strut on our cockpit table - it seats in a cock on the binnacle and another one at the loose end of the table. You could do similar - only issue may be that it may restrict movement under the table....

Either double up the existing slide out arrangement or if your chippy skills are on ok form why not add a packer piece of solid matching trim that brings the fixed leaf out 7mm plus another12, which is enoughy to fit and fold 2 hinged supports?
