Synthetic teak

My synthetic decking has a broom pushed over it on a regular basis and a hose off as and when necessary. It also looks as good as it did the day it was fitted.
I've always admired real teak, but the effort I'd need to spend to keep it looking how I like it, would be too much.
I'd rather be standing on it than working on it.:D

Also, when fitting genuine teak to decks, is that bonded or screwed/bolted?

I struggle to fully comprehend delusionists , you call it left of field but surely people who glue thin wooden planks onto plastic dont think they have a real teak deck , LOL :D

Are you being serious
Now you are being silly...!
Right, the top half of my boat is not made of wood, no, if that is what you want to be told.
So, in GRP boats, maybe we can agree we all start with a grp base. You might now fit real teak or plastic teak.
Teak finished deck or plastic finished deck if the word finished makes you content.

Oh, apologies to yourself and Kcrane if my post came across sarcastic , I will revisit it to amend.

Hi Paul,

In the current issue of MBY (July 2012) Dave Marsh has written an in-depth article on the subject covering what's out there and the pros and cons versus the real thing. You may find it interesting if you fancy some further reading!

Cheers,

Jack

Has anyone got a copy of this article that they would be so kind as to scan and send it to me via my PM?

Many thanks in advance.

I have to say that the 'fake' teaks have to be a good option....much easier to look after. We have 'real' teak all round which just happened to be fitted when we bought the boat (we wouldn't have opted for it on a new boat). It looks nice but we do prefer the silver 'natural' look as opposed to the treated look so it is easier to look after as we are not worried about treating it. The real issue is that it is easy to stain it through spills etc and that detracts from the appearance, particularly in the cockpit.

Personally, on a GRP boat I would go for plastic decks!

Duradeck

I have a new Bavaria 28 sport with Duradeck. It looks and feels great! Real rubber between the ribs just as real teak and easy to sand down if it gets any marks or scratches on. I hade to choose between Iroko and Duradeck and i dont regret my choise.

hmm, you're using a free forum provided by a magazine to ask if someone can infringe the copyright of the same magazine by sending you the bits you want out of the current, widely available issue :D

I'm sure you hadn't though of it like that, but on balance it's probably fairer to buy the magazine?

Hi Nick,

As I've been traipsing around all my local newsagents/supermarkets for the past three days trying to buy the "widely available" July issue, with no luck, I thought I'd be cheeky and ask for a scanned copy of the article on here!! ;);)

The problem is the magazines' always seem to be issued at least one month before their actual published date, and so the July issue is deemed obsolescent in the eys of the retailers, as they are awaiting the August issue....if that makes sense??

No, I don't want a digital copy, as I much prefer the old fashioned paper copy that I can thumb through at my leisure........I just HATE all this digital 'i-this' and 'i that' malarky! :D

Hang about Mr Tightwad :D

Didnt you ask us to scan a copy of our mags that we bought and turn it into a digital copy for you to read ;)

If you are really struggling to get a copy then pm me your address and I will send you my copy as soon as I've finished it.
Please send me a reminder mid week by which time I should have finished it.

Prices prices prices.....
Yes the TekDek and some others look good, but they do cost quite a lot, I suppose everything is relative and I KNOW IT'S CHEEPER than to lay teak again.

I have teak on me decks (Arrrggggg) and it's going to cost a fortune to replace with whatever I choose. Rip up the old cräp, make good the surface then apply, lots of money..BUT it will have to be done at some stage...

TekDek, I'm sure will be the way forward. It looks so easy to lay..... until I get my hands on it;)

We fitted Tek Dek to our old boat about 11 years ago when Tek Dek were fairly new and loved it.

We've recently had the bathing platform of our current boat done by a company called Decking Inspirations who did a first class job at a brilliant price and it looks outstanding.

BTW not having the poncy edging is the way to go giving it a much cleaner look :D
