I've fitted a fair amount of Dek-king to a number of boats over the last few years and I have to say I've been impressed with how it's lasted.
In fact I fitted it to my own cockpit last August and compared to the old paint finish it's wonderful.
Very grippy when wet at big angles, it absorbs winch handles being inadvertently dropped without any damage, is comfortable to sit on and dries fast.
The look can be radically changed by using 40 grit sandpaper along the grain and there have been recent additions in base colours.

You could save quite bit of the area and hence cost of the imitation teak by cutting a bloody great big hole out of the middle of the cockpit!

I will also get on fine with the manky treadmaster and faded blue bits on Harmony

however, I think that the plastic teak looks and feels a lot nicer

nothing wrong with asking the price of something

if it made Jill happier, my arse warmer and added to the value of the boat then worth doing

but it sounds as though decks and cockpit would be the thick end of £1K

as for ebay - this Harmony is too good for ebay

I shall do the boats and outboards thing

start at a silly high price (maybe £10K) and then drop the price by £250 a week until some-one goes for it

if I had bought a different manky engineless, electricless, upholdteryless bogless boat then an ebay quicky would have been the way to go


I have had some angry emails from blokes outraged that I dumped the slug

however this is a real journey rather than a pretend three men in a boat, Dimblebug, Edmundson or Top Gear style fantasy.

So I have no idea what lies ahead

I did not expect to end up in a boat as good as this one... but to turn her down because she was a good boat at the price of a **** boat would be insane.

To tear out a perfectly good inboard just to prove a point would have been bonkers

No, Dylan - pragmatism shows good seamanship!

I always hope to come gently up to the pontoon and kiss sweetly as I arrive, but when it's all gong a bit wrong and there's a b####y great ferry heading my way, I shrug and ram the pontoon, drop a line on a cleat and suggest the crew may like to adjust the fenders (so they can report any damage). Similarly, if the engine is smoking a bit, I ignore the crew who want to strip it down, open the throttle and pray it clears or at least gets us onto the mooring before it stops.

Quite a few people put teak ot fake teak pads only on the cockpit seats for comfort, all the rest is purely cosmetic if the Treadmaster is OK.

Not at all - just that a goodly proportion - probably the majority, said that one with a decent inboard would be their preferred option. So it is with a somewhat sardonic smile that we see that that's the route you've actually taken. The betting is now whether you'll ever revert to Katie L, or stay a Centaurist and possibly the owner of a nicely pimped-up one!

It is, we're hoping to gradually do the whole boat. It's waaaaaaaaaaaaay nicer than Treadmaster. Plus I don't get the criticism - is it wrong for someone to ask about it when they've asked about cheap ideas as well? Some folk on here need to get out sailing bit more often, I hear it's good stress relief
