Yes indeed, the Navy was given some really useless missile systems, Secat, Seaslug, Sea dart, when all we had to do was buy from America whose warships had systems that worked.
I wrote about the state of affairs in my Midshipman's journal in the late 1960's and was told I was 'defeatist' and should keep quiet.

I was seriously impressed by the onboard camera woman jumping overboard like she did, and it gave a fantastic impression of just how quickly those boats are going!

I'd like to reply on the same lines, and to hear more detail - but let's start another thread not disrupt the Sydney-Hobart race thread any more; best in the lounge ?

Fair do's. Just one of those things. Someone started on about Naval matters to which I felt a reply was needed.
Will delete last post & re-post in a new Lounge thread. Just have to think of a name for it Apols to the OP.
